Last day

Well it was my last day at work and boy did they get their money’s worth! No more having to dispense medication or make up hundreds of wallet boxes for the homes or having to deal with the addicts who think the world owes them a living. So glad it’s over and looking forward to waking up in the morning not having to think of the 10 hours on my feet, running round like an idiot trying to do 10 things at once. No more throbbing feet and aching legs or sore eyes from looking at a computer too long. Now I’m looking forward to our future in Bulgaria and waking up in the morning and feeling good about my life……

Inspirational video of Bulgaria

Please check out this video which gives a small insight into how amazing Bulgaria really is.

We watched this from start to finish in one go, all the way through all you could hear where ooo’s and aaa’s , this video goes someway to show how truly amazing the scenery is in Bulgaria and some of that shown in the Video – Belogradchik Rocks is only 20 minutes away from our front door.

The more we watched the more we realised that we have made the right decision to leave the UK behind and start our new lives in Bulgaria.  I have watched this video a few times now and everytime it enhances the excitement within and encourages us to get everything in order so that we can enjoy everything that Bulgaria has to offer.

It is surreal to think that in 4 weeks and 4 days we will be on the ferry leaving the White Cliffs of Dover behind and on to our Big Adventure where we can start our new lives.

We are so lucky to be in this situation as how many people get the opportunity to live out there dreams?

We kinda wish we had done this sooner, but deep down we know that once we have started our new lives we will be able to appreciate them more.

This video hasn’t been made by me,  (credit to The Discovery Channel) but I just had to share it with you all.

We would be interested to hear any comments you might have about this video, so please feel free to leave them.

Time to reflect…..

Well it’s less than 5 weeks till we say goodbye to the UK and make our way to Bulgaria and the start of a new life. It’s been a difficult day today, day off work and sitting in an almost empty house, I’ve had time to think and reflect. Being a woman I do what all women do, think and worry too much!! All sorts of things running through my head, have we packed everything we need, will we have enough money, are we doing the right thing etc, etc etc. I think that now it’s getting closer to D Day, the romance, excitement and eagerness has taken a back seat and now the reality of it all has just hit me in the face, panic and the fear of the unknown has taken its place. My husband is not panicking or worrying, he’s excited and eager to go and re-assures me that everything will be fine and I know in my heart it will ….. just not feeling it today. I’m sure that this last month will be the hardest, full of ifs, buts and maybes, we shall see………..

The Good Life Bulgaria Pinterest Page

Why not check out our Pinterest page (just click here https://pinterest.com/ruralretrobg/ ), currently we are saving “Pins” as inspiration for ideas that we can try to achieve in our new home.  As our journey progresses we will be adding our own “Pins” of our achievements along with step by step guides on how we achieved our accomplishments in Bulgaria.  It’s going to be a fun journey so please feel free to join us.

Our Home On Wheels

After looking at the route we would be taking to Bulgaria, it soon became apparent that a near 2000 mile journey is going to take us at least 3 – 4 days of solid driving.

Because of this we realised that it would be beneficial to have a caravan, not only for the journey but also to stay in whilst we do the renovations on our house.

Now us being us and not always doing things the “normal” way (after all we did buy a house blind off of Ebay), we went back on to the wonder that is Ebay and fell in love with this completely original 1960’s Retro Caravan. Mint condition out of the box doesn’t even come close to its condition, but it is going to be a great place to relax in after a long day, it is inspirational just sitting inside of it.

The only slight downside (possibly) is the looks we might get at border controls as we are going to be towing this beauty behind a LWB high top transit van, we will look like some bizarre travellers, but we will keep blogging as we travel so we can let you know how we get on as we pass through the numerous borders across Europe.

It is going to be one Big Adventure but we can’t wait for it to begin.

Where We Bought Our House From

Where We Bought Our House From

We purchased our house from Investment Link (Please click on title above to visit their website).  They are also know as Bulgaria Direct on Ebay.  Most people might think we are mad but after a lot of research we decided to take the plunge and bought our house off of Ebay on a no reserve auction.  We put our faith in our research and the photo’s shown on the listing.  We have never visited Bulgaria (possibly mad I know), nor have we seen our house in real life yet (possibly even more mad) but from our gut instinct we put our bids in and nervously waited for the auction to finish.

We finally won the auction after much anticipation and excitement and against all odds we were home owners in the beautiful country of Bulgaria.  We are leaving the rat race and the drudgery of the UK at the end of April 2013 and we can’t wait to begin our self sufficient Good Life lifestyle.

Throughout the whole buying process so far we can not fault the help and efforts of the staff at Investment Link, they have gone above and beyond so far and we have no reason to think that this won’t change.  We will continue to inform you of our progress with them, but for a couple of Brits starting a new life in a new country they have already made us feel welcome and confident in their homeland.

I will post some pictures of the house directly off of the auction, and as soon as we have moved over we will post some pictures of how the house looks once we have arrived.

We have so many ideas and aspirations for what we want to do with our new home, barns and gardens, and can’t wait to see what we can do once we see everything in the flesh.
